The Chaotic World of Youth Sports 😮 Vol 73

isport360-youth-sports

As a sports parent and coach, I know how complicated youth sports can be at times. So I’d like to share some helpful articles that shed light on the challenges we face… and some funny ones that might even give us an opportunity to laugh at ourselves. Please enjoy… and please click here to try our iSport360 app, which helps coaches, kids and parents set goals, share player feedback and track player progress throughout the season. Our goal is simple: to help kids have more success, more confidence, and more fun.

For Crazy Sports Parents (Like Me): The First Step To Recovery

I can’t thank Sports Nova Scotia enough for this hysterical satire of a Sport Parent “Support Group”. While it’s great for a laugh, what I loved about it is that it touches on all of the serious topics that we cover in our blog: early sports specialization, having realistic expectations about your kids and balancing fun vs. winning.  So have a laugh, but take a lesson… and let’s keep the focus of youth sports on our kids. Time For Mid-Season Evals

While end-of-season player evaluations are important, we know that they don’t help players improve throughout the season.  So now is a great time to share mid-season evals with your players.  Take 3-5 minutes to complete a player evaluation and give your players some tangible feedback they can act on before the end of the season.  They’ll thank you and their parents will thank you.  Then you can sit back and enjoy the results. Click here to learn more.

“Shoot”: The Most Dangerous Word in Youth Sports

I actually lost track of the number of times I heard parents yelling “SHOOT” at my 9 year old’s basketball game this weekend.  “SHOOT” …hmmm. Is that a cheer?  Is that a word of encouragement?  Is that an instruction?  Actually,  “SHOOT” is a command, and it’s generally yelled by a parent, above the volume of anyone else in the bleachers,  to get their child to shoot the ball… in basketball, lacrosse, hockey, soccer and more. Click here to read the full article.
